Solutions · Utility & grid edge

The intelligence layer the distribution system needs.

Utilities are transitioning from Distribution Network Operator to Distribution System Operator under load growth, electrification, and DER proliferation. Ipnops Grid is built for that transition — DERMS-grade orchestration, FLISR augmentation, VPP market participation, all with the standards-native, audit-ready posture that NERC CIP-003-9 (2026) and FERC Order 2222 demand.

Use cases

What the platform actually does, here.

DERMS orchestration

IEEE 2030.5 + CSIP comms to every connected DER under the utility's curtailment authority. Day-ahead schedules and real-time setpoint dispatch. The platform handles the long tail of inverter vendors, smart-thermostat ecosystems, and EVSE protocols — utilities don't have to.

VPP market participation

Aggregations of residential and commercial DERs bid into ISO/RTO capacity, energy, and ancillary-services markets under FERC Order 2222. CAISO live since November 2024. NYISO live since April 2024. ISO-NE energy + ancillary go-live November 1, 2026 (capacity February 1, 2027). MISO Phase 1 by June 2027. PJM February 2028.

FLISR augmentation

Existing FLISR systems already deliver 30-55% outage-duration cuts. Ipnops Grid layers intelligence on top: vegetation-growth predictions from drone + satellite imagery feeding tie-switch routing decisions, acoustic-anomaly inputs into reclosure-allowed/disallowed gating, weather-conditioned failure rates per asset class.

Substation acoustic + vision rounds

Continuous PANNs-based acoustic monitoring on transformers, switchgear, and reactors. Periodic Qwen3-VL drone rounds for visual inspection (cracked insulators, broken hardware, vegetation, thermal hotspots). Findings flow into the work-management system as structured tickets with severity, location, and recommended action.

Wildfire mitigation & PSPS optimization

Vegetation models from imagery + LiDAR. Weather-driven ignition risk from GraphCast fine-tuned against PSPS labels. The platform recommends sectionalization and PSPS scope at sub-feeder granularity — minimizing customer impact while meeting safety thresholds. PG&E's 2026-2028 plan formalizes AI-driven weather and asset analytics; Ipnops Grid is the toolkit equivalent for utilities without their scale.

Grid-forming inverter compliance

IEEE 2800-2022 compliance verification for new IBR interconnections. The platform models negative-sequence current behaviour during asymmetric LVRT and validates each commissioning candidate against the standard's three performance categories. Reduces interconnection-study cycle time at the DSO interface.

OT cybersecurity posture

NERC CIP-003-9 enforcement begins April 2026 with expanded governance for low-impact BES Cyber Systems. The platform's audit logs, role-based access, and CIP-012 telecom-encryption awareness are designed to slot into the utility's compliance framework — not add burden to it.

How a deployment runs

Pilot → DERMS-grade in two quarters.

  1. 01

Quarter 1: read-only ingestion of SCADA, AMI, PMU, acoustic, and vision streams. Asset register imported from CIM extracts. Baselining + anomaly-detection modules go live in shadow mode.

  2. 02

Quarter 2: VPP enrollment for one substation. Orchestrated DER under bid into the relevant ISO market. FLISR augmentation rolls out feeder-by-feeder. Wildfire-risk feeds pilot in the highest-risk circuit.

  3. 03

Quarter 3+: full DERMS-grade orchestration, NERC CIP-003-9 audit pack, programmatic VPP scaling, and continuous wildfire/vegetation monitoring across the service territory.
