Capability · Simulation

Test the future, before you wire it.

Physics-aware simulation across the grid edge, the building, and the district. The same simulator that runs scenario studies for planners runs as the guard for autonomous dispatch in production — the agent is constrained to actions that simulate cleanly first.

01

Power-flow

OpenDSS for distribution feeders and GridLAB-D for time-series studies, wrapped in a common interface. Topology imported from the customer's CIM (IEC 61968 / 61970) extracts. The simulator runs an ensemble — typically n=32 — across stochastic load and weather realizations, returning quantile bands rather than single trajectories.

02

DER orchestration

GridSim — our open-foundations DER simulator — models VPP dispatch, BESS sizing, EV smart-charging schedules, demand response, solar siting, and microgrid islanding. Coefficients are calibrated against published research and the customer's own historical dispatch logs once enough operational data accumulates.

03

Building energy

MPC-style model-predictive control models for HVAC, heat pumps, and DHW. Given a 24-48h forecast of weather and prices, the simulator schedules the building's loads to minimize energy cost while honoring comfort constraints. Documented adaptive HVAC systems in 2026 are hitting 25-35% reductions in HVAC energy and 90% reductions in peak load — without touching tenant comfort.

04

5GDHC thermal

Bidirectional 5th-generation district heating + cooling networks couple thermal and electric flows. The platform models them as a coupled hydraulic-electric optimization with thermal storage, enabling demand-response coordination across both energy vectors. Reference deployments in 2026 show 14% peak-electricity shift potential through this coupling.

05

Outage and resilience

Storm-driven outage simulations with weather-conditioned failure rates per asset class. Restoration time is modeled with truck-roll dispatch + FLISR re-routing. The output is the resilience-curve operators present to regulators after a major event — except now it's a forecast, not a postmortem.

06

The dispatch guard

Before the agent commits any dispatch action, the simulator runs the proposed action against the current grid state and verifies it stays within the customer's policy envelope: voltage bounds, frequency limits, equipment ratings, comfort constraints, market-clearing rules. If it doesn't simulate cleanly, the agent doesn't act. This is the safety mechanism that lets autonomy ship.
